The Six Step Model

The basics of the Thresholds Program are the six step decision process as designed by Mickey Burglass.

  1. Define/Understand the situation you are in

  2. Set a goal for yourself in this situation

  3. Develop possibilities to reach your goal

  4. Evaluate the possibilities

  5. Decide on one of the possibilities

  6. Implement your decision

The Six Steps are presented using group and individual sessions.

A Volunteer will meet with a student weekly and discuss how the material applies to the inmate and his/her situation. The student and volunteer find realistic ways to achieve the goal. Through this small step approach, the student learns a better way to handle and resolve situations in their lives. Each cycle of ten classes includes three group classes and six one on one classes.
